Biography

Ed Sweeney is the managing partner and co-owner of Wusinich, Sweeney & Ryan, LLC. His litigation practice of three decades has focused on employment law, workers’ compensation, personal injury, and disability/social security.  In 2019, Mr. Sweeney was named as a Top Attorney in Employment Law by Suburban Life and Philadelphia Life.  The firm of Wusinich, Sweeney & Ryan, LLC is AV Peer Review rated by Martindale Hubbell.

Mr. Sweeney is not only a litigator, but has provided advice and legal counsel as the Solicitor for various judicial offices in Chester County, including the Office of the Prothonotary (1998-2005), the Office of the Recorder of Deeds (2000 to 2019), and the dual Offices of the Register of Wills and Orphans’ Court (2006 to 2011).

Mr. Sweeney has published scholarly articles on various legal topics and has lectured on them. Among them is a two-part comprehensive article in the Pennsylvania Bar Association Quarterly in 2005-2006 on practice issues that arise in Prothonotary Offices in Pennsylvania. He has written three other PBAQ articles. His most recent involves the power of a Recorders of Deeds Offices in Pennsylvania to accept and reject filings. In 2001, he also received the Larry Simonsmeier DuPont Legal Writing Award from American Society of Pharmacy Law for an article on punitive damages in pharmacy law.  In law school, he received second place in an national contest for an article on labor law.

In 1991 to 1993, Mr. Sweeney was an appellate law clerk to the Honorable James R. Cavanaugh of the Pennsylvania Superior Court. In 1991, he received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School. In 1986, Mr. Sweeney graduated La Salle University maxima cum laude. In 1982, he received the Christian Brother’s Scholarship, a four-year full-tuition scholarship to La Salle University.  He went to St. Joe’s Prep for high school.

Mr. Sweeney’s public service includes election to the School Board Director from 2016 to 2019 for the Tredyffrin-Easttown School District. From 2018-2019, he served as Board member on the Chester County Intermediate Unit and the Chester County School Authority. Mr. Sweeney has been active in the Chester County GOP and Tredyffrin GOP in various leadership, legal and volunteer roles. He has served several terms on the Tredyffrin Planning Commission and on the Zoning Hearing Board.

Mr. Sweeney is active in the Catholic community locally.  He is a longstanding leader in the Chester County Red Mass, which is a service for members of the legal profession, and was one of its original founders. He is the principal organizer for the Blue Mass annually celebrated on 9/11 at St. Isaac Jogues in Valley Forge to honor the sacrifices of First Responders.  He currently serves on the Advisory Board of the convent of St. Mary of Providence in Elverson.  He has been active in St. Isaac Jogues Parish Council and its Knights of Columbus Council.
